Description
Meranti is made up of many sub species (Shorea) and is imported from South East Asia. There will be some variation in color across the timber species, ranging in color from pale-red to reddish/brown. It has a moderately coarse grain but even in texture with an attractive ribbon feature.
Rough sawn sizes available in South Africa are;
25mm / 38mm / 50mm / 76mm x 76mm / 102mm / 114mm / 152mm / 228mm / 304mm
Lengths : 1.8m – 6.0m
Meranti is stable and easy to machine and has been the timber of choice for many years in the manufacturing of Doors and Windows in South Africa. Other products manufactured in Meranti are mouldings , decking, siding, cabinets, paneling and joinery. It can be painted or stained to match the color of your home.
